MOBILE, Ala. ? The South Alabama women’s tennis team finished the regular season with a 5-1 victory over North Florida Saturday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
With the win, USA (15-9) also finished the regular season a perfect 10-0 at home. North Florida falls to 14-7 with the loss.
In doubles action, South Alabama captured two of the three matches to take the early 1-0 match lead. Michaela Babicova and Dijana Stanic defeated UNF’s team of Natilia Sanchez and Catalina Castillo 8-4 at No.1, while USA’s duo of Rita Freitas and Sylvanie Spangenberg were victorious at No. 3 with an 8-1 win over Robin Rogers and Carolina de Melo, 8-1.
USA came out and quickly clinched the match with wins at No. 2, 5 and 6. Babicova improved her record to 27-6 when she picked up a win at No. 2 when UNF’s Vanessa Sanchez was forced to retire due to injury. Stanic and Freitas then followed with straight set wins at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, to seal the victory for the Jags. Adrianna Solarova closed out the match with a three set victory to run her record to 24-6 on the season.
The No. 4 singles match was not completed due to weather.
The Jags will next head to Denton, Texas to compete in the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. April 20-22.
