NO. 24 SOUTH ALABAMA POSTS 5-1 WIN OVER WICHITA STATE

WICHITA, Kan. ? The No. 24 South Alabama men’s tennis team posted a 5-1 win over Wichita State Saturday afternoon at the Coleman Tennis Complex.  With the win, USA improved to 16-3 overall, while Wichita State fell to 7-6.

 

The teams started with singles since there was poor weather in the area.  USA posted wins at Nos. 1-3 and 5-6 for the victory.  Senior Dias Doskarayev, ranked 48th in the latest ITA poll, needed three sets to get past No. 115 Goran Vujaklija, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at the top spot and Robert Hodel also needed three sets at No. 5 to defeat Thiago Dos Santos, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.  Albert Ballesta got the Shockers’ lone win at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over sophomore Craig Dunne.  No. 41 Marek Sramek defeated former Jaguar Tiago Espirito Santo in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.

 

USA had its match against No. 18 Oklahoma State cancelled on Friday due to heavy rain.  The Jaguars now play No. 22 Tulsa on Sunday at 9 a.m., before returning home.
