ORANGE BEACH, Ala. ? The 18th-ranked South Alabama men’s tennis team blanked Southern Mississippi 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Orange Beach Tennis Center. With the win, USA improves to 15-3 on the year, while Southern Miss falls to 8-8.
South Alabama won two of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point to begin the match. USM’s top duo of Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage defeated USA’s doubles team of junior Robert Hodel and sophomore Marek Sramek, 8-5. The Jaguars responded winning convincingly at Nos. 2 and 3 to win the point. Juniors Robert Nagel and Jack Baker played at No. 2 today and sophomore Craig Dunne and senior Dias Doskarayev played at No. 3.
USA won all six singles matches with four in straight sets. Dunne, playing four in the lineup today, needed three sets to dispose of Diego Machuca, 2-6, 7-6, 7-6, while Hodel needed three sets to knock off Strate Krstevski, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Jaguars continue on the road next weekend, heading to Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Wichita State.
