LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The 64th ranked University of South Alabama women’s tennis team rebounded with a 5-2 victory over Sun Belt Conference foe UALR on Monday afternoon at the UALR Tennis Complex.
South Alabama improves to 8-7 overall and 2-1 against SBC foes, while the Lady Trojans drop their second straight match and fall to 11-7 on the season. The Jaguar women will next head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a pair of matches. USA will take on Indiana State on Sunday and then close out the four-match road swing against Middle Tennessee on Monday.
For the eighth time this spring, USA jumped out to the early 1-0 match lead when the Jaguars were able to take two of the three matches. South Alabama’s doubles teams of Adrianna Solarova/Sylvanie Spangenberg (8-4), playing at No 1, and Dijana Stanic/Michaela Babicova (8-2), playing at No. 3 each won their respective matches to clinch the point for USA. The Jags are now a perfect 8-0 this season when they claim the doubles point.
In the singles portion of the match, the Jags picked up three wins to seal the match victory. Solarova, ranked 46th by the ITA, got things started with a dominant performance at the No. 1 position defeating Jenna Hirdle 6-0, 6-0. Stanic then followed Solarova with a straight-set victory of her own at the No. 5 spot to put USA one point away from clinching the match and Babicova sealed the win with a three-set victory (6-0, 3-6, 6-1) at No. 2 over UALR’s Outi Jarvinen. Both Solarova and Babicova are now 9-1 in their last 10 matches,
Jelena Krivacevic also continued her solid singles play with a two-set win of her own over the Trojans’ Rosario Negrete.
