NEW ORLEANS - Sun Belt Conference officials announced the first outdoor track and field Performer's of the Week Tuesday afternoon and South Alabama Jaguar Nicole Knox earned the honor for her field event performances at the Jaguar Premier Invitational, March 3. The Sun Belt recognized all performance from the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
Knox, fresh off her SBC Indoor Championship winning-performance in the high jump, broke her own record in the outdoor event, clearing an NCAA Regional-qualifying height of 1.81m (5' 11.25") at the outdoor season-opener. It is the fourth time the Montgomery, Ala., native has bested the school's best mark in the event, including the April 15, 2006 leap of 1.78m (5' 10") at the USA Invitational.
The junior added another podium placement on the day, taking third in the long jump with a sand-landing of 5.40m (17' 8.75").
Running a leg on the second-place 4x100m relay and the victorious 4x400m, Knox totaled four top-flight performances at the first of two home meets for South Alabama.
The Jags will take the rest of Spring Break off and return for track and field competition at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala., March 23 - 25.
