JAG?S FALL 2-0 AGAINST BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN TO SNAP FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama softball team had its four-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon at the Russell Athletic Spring Classic in a 2-0 decision against Birmingham Southern.  The Jag’s fall to 13-8, while BSC improves to 7-15.

After four scoreless innings, Birmingham Southern’s Heather Fox hit a solo home run with one out in the fifth inning.  The Jaguars fought back in the sixth inning, loading the bases, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

Fox added another solo homer in the top of the seventh to extend the Panthers lead to 2-0, which turned out to be enough for BSC to walk away with the victory after pitcher Bethney Reynoldson struck out the side in the bottom of the inning.

Linden Jones (8-4) is charged with the loss, striking out three, only giving up two runs on four hits, and walking one.  In the shutout, Reynoldson (5-7) picked up the win against the Jags for the second time this season.  She gave up five hits, while striking out 11 and only walking one batter.

Four Jaguars were selected to the ten-player all-tournament team, including pitcher Linden Jones, designated player Tara Donaldson and outfielders Evelyne Pare and Katie McGuire.

The Jags will be back in action at UAB at Noon on Tuesday, March 13.
