CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of South Alabama women's tennis team, ranked No. 75 in the Fila/ITA Rankings, fell at No. 13 Clemson, 6-1, on Thursday. The squad, now 4-6 on the spring term, return to Mobile for a Sun Belt Conference tilt against Louisiana-Monroe, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The three-match homestand will continue during Spring Break with a March 13 (10 a.m.) test against Washington State and a March 14 (11 a.m.) showdown with Ole Miss.
The Jaguar side went down in the doubles portion of the match at all three positions. Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg lost to the 55th-ranked pairing in the country Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem, 8-1, at No. 1.
At the No.2 and 3 positions, the Jags drew a little more from the Tigers, but could not turn the effort into victories. Michaela Babicova and Dijana Stanic took Carol Salgw and Estefania Balda to 14 games, but were had, 8-6, at No.2. Rita Frietas and Jelena Krivacevic were downed at No.3, 8-5, by the No. 32 team of Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc.
In singles, the lone singles victory for the Jags was garnered by Babicova. The Slovakian sophomore bettered the 44th-ranked singles player in the Fila/ITA Rankings, Salge, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and improved her record to 15-5 this season, 2-2 against nationally-ranked opponents, both Jaguar bests.
