JAGUAR WOMEN?S TENNIS FALLS TO NO. 4 FLORIDA, 6-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? Despite Adrianna Solarova’s upset win at the No. 1 singles position, the University of South Alabama women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the fourth-ranked Florida Gators Friday night at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.

South Alabama (1-3) will face Florida International, the defending Sun Belt Conference Champions, on Saturday at Noon (Central) in Gainesville.  FIU is ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA poll and is a perfect 3-0 on the young season, having captured wins over Princeton, Penn State and No. 42 N.C. State.

The Lady Gators (4-0) came out of the gates in doubles action and dominated play sweeping all three matches.  USA was unable to get anything going as Florida picked up an 8-0 win at the No. 1 position, an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 position and an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 position.

Holding a 1-0 match lead heading into singles play, Florida quickly took the first three points to seal the match with straight set victories at the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots.  Whitney Benzik, ranked No. 78 by the ITA, clinched the match for Florida when she defeated USA’s Michaela Babicova in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) at the second singles position.

Solarova finally put USA on the board with a three-set upset victory over 11th-ranked Diana Srebrovic.  Sreberovic took the first set 6-2, but the Jag netter rallied back and evened things up with a 6-2 victory over her own.  In the third and deciding set, Solarova outlasted Sreberovic 11-9 to take the victory and cut the match score to 4-1.

UF also added singles victories at the No 2 and No 6 spots.  The Gators now hold a 3-0 all-time record versus South Alabama.
