JAGUAR MEN'S TENNIS POSTS 7-0 VICTORIES OVER TENNESSEE TECH AND SOUTHERN

MOBILE, Ala. - The Univeristy of South Alabama men's tennis team had no problem with Tennessee Tech on Sunday morning at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts.  The 34th-ranked Jaguars (3-0) posted a 7-0 victory over the winless Golden Eagles and followed up with a 7-0 blanking of Southern in the afternoon.

"We came out strong today and set the pace in doubles," Jaguar assistant coach Daniel Silverstein said.  "Getting R.J. (Nagel) back in our doubles lineup really helped strengthen the team."

And that it did as Nagle and senior Dias Doskarayev, ranked 33rd in the latest ITA Poll defeated the Golden Eagles' top duo of Tiago Gilioli and Borja Zarco, 8-2.  At the number two seed, junior Robert Hodel and sophomore Marek Sramek blanked Louis Steyn and Alexander Ilyukhin 8-0, while junior Jack Baker and sophomore Craig Dunne defeated Juan Pablo Gomez and James Bennett 8-3 at the number three seed.

USA then needed little time to win the match in singles play as Baker clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gomez at number three.  Sramek, ranked 20th in singles, opened his match with Gilioli with a 6-1 first set victory, but Gilioli would not go away quietly as he came back in the second set for a 6-2 win forcing a tie-breaker as the other five singles matches already had concluded.

Sramek started the 10-point tie-breaker down 5-1, but won the next seven points to take an 8-5 lead.  Gilioli won the next point on a long rally, but Sramek put him away for the win.

The Jaguars take on Southern University at 2 p.m. in the second match of the day.  USA has two weeks off before it hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 18.
