KNOX AND TIROP LEAD JAG TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS AT NOTRE DAME

Meyo Invitational Friday Results

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The 20th Meyo Invitational saw action from the University of South Alabama track and field teams on Friday evening.  Notre Dame hosted the Jags in five events at the Loftus Sports Center, four in the field and one race on the 320 meter (oversized) track.

Nicole Knox, formally of Carver HS (Montgomery, Ala.) had a big day in the field for the Jags.  The junior began her evening by returning to the long jump for the first time since her runner-up finish at the Alabama State High School Championships.  Knox place 13th with a mark of 5.59m (18' 4.25"), the best performance by a Jag in the event this season.  A short time later, the South Alabama record-holder in the women's high jump, notched a sixth-place performance in that event with a final clearance of 1.70m (5' 7").

Former Davidson HS (Mobile, Ala.) standout, junior Michael Bagby competed in the men's broad jump, placing 21st overall, leaving his mark in the sand at 6.67m (21' 10.75").

In the only track race of the day for the Jags, the 5000m, Micah Tirop finished seventh in a time of 14:20.32.  The transfer from Moi University (Kenya) was ranked No. 2 in the Sun Belt in this event coming in to the weekend behind teammate and fellow Kenyan Vincent Rono's 14:21.68.

Action continues at Notre Dame on Saturday.  The morning session begins with the 3000m for women at 9:30 a.m.
