MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama volleyball team ended the season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (22-30, 22-30, 17-30) loss to Florida International at Jag Gym.
South Alabama ends the season with an 11-18 overall mark and finishes with a 4-12 record in the Sun Belt. With the win, Florida International improves to 18-7 and 12-5 in the SBC.
Yarimar Rosa led the Golden Panthers with 15 kills on the afternoon, while hitting .423. USA was paced offensively by Hristina Markova’s eight kills.
As a team, FIU out hit the Jags .330 to .033 in the win.
GAME ONE: Florida International 30, South Alabama 22
Florida International broke a 17-17 tie in the first game of the match with a 7-0 run that was ignited by an Ines Medved kill. During the FIU run, USA aided the Golden Panther effort with four attack errors. Florida International went on to take the opener with the 30-22 win. FIU was hot offensively in the first game, recording a .367 hitting percentage.
GAME TWO: Florida International 30, South Alabama 22
After USA was able to take the opening point in game two, Florida International took control of the contest when the Golden Panthers reeled off five straight points. Rosa capped off the scoring spurt for FIU with one of her 15 kills in the match. South Alabama kept battling and finally tied the contest back up at 20-20 after a Markova put away, but FIU answered right back by closing out game two on a 10-2 run to take the eight point win.
GAME THREE: Florida International 30, South Alabama 17
The finale was tight early on, but FIU grabbed the lead for good when the Golden Panthers grabbed 11 of the next 15 points and took an 18-11 lead after four more Jaguar attack errors. Anita Szymanska sealed the 30-17 victory when she slammed home one of her eight kills on the afternoon.
