BAKER?S FANTASTIC RUN AT THE ITA ALL-AMERICAN COMES TO AN END

TULSA, Okla. ? University of South Alabama senior men’s tennis player Jack Baker saw his fantastic run in the Main Draw of the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship come to an end Saturday when he fell in straight sets to the top-ranked singles player in the nation Somdev Devvarman (Virginia).

“Jack gave everything he had in both the first set and second set today,” South Alabama men’s tennis head coach Nick Brochu said.  “The 12 matches in six days just took a lot out of him.  To his credit he kept fighting and played well all tournament.  It was an awesome tournament for him.”

With his advancement to the Quarterfinals of the ITA All-American, Baker now qualifies for the National Singles Indoor Tournament to be held at Ohio State University (Nov. 1-4).   Baker will be one of only 32 players in the tournament.

At this week’s prestigious tournament, Baker recorded six singles victories and four doubles victories with his partner Marek Sramek.  With his performance this past week, Baker most likely will see his singles ranking jump.

The Jags will return to action when they compete at the ITA Regional in Lexington, Ky. (Oct. 18-22).
