BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Micah Tirop won his fifth cross country meet of the season Saturday, claiming the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championship. South Alabama's men's team finished eighth, while the women’s team finished 11th.
Micah Tirop took home top honors with a time of 24:40.07, more than 27 seconds better than runner-up Ondrej Puskar of Arkansas-Little Rock.
"I felt really good and the running was easy to me," Tirop said, " I was very happy to win".
Tirop also took home the most outstanding perfromance of the championship.
Jaguar Antipah Sugut snagged third with a time of 25:24.21 to join Tirop on the all-conference team.
" I am very pleased that our men's and women's teams ran well and we were able to claim two awards" head coach Lee Evans said, "We will now get Micah and Antipah ready for the regional championships in Gainesville, Fla."
The 2007 Sun Belt cross country Championship marks the fifth straight time that a South Alabama runner has claimed the individual title.
