USA GOLF IN THIRD PLACE

Nashville, Tenn. ? The University of South Alabama men’s golf team rebounded from a disappointing performance at the Memphis Intercollegiate with a two-over par 286 at the Mason Randolph Intercollegiate, Sunday. The Jaguars are only three strokes back of the Rebels of Mississippi. True-freshman Jack Hiluta is one stroke back of individual leader Jake Amos of Augusta State. At the par-71 Legends Course, Hiluta fired a three-under par 68.

“I am very proud of our guys and the way they fought on the back nine playing so well,” head coach Ben Hannan said. “Because of how they closed out they put themselves in position to compete for a title in the next 36 holes.”

Senior Jonny Caldwell and junior Daniel Burns each returned to usual form and carded in rounds of 70 and 71, respectively. Sophomore Marc Etienne Bussiers turned in even-par 71, while junior Dan Swomley scored 81.

“There is a lot of golf to play and this is a very deep field, but hopefully this round will brew confidence in their ability to continue to play well,” Hannan added.

The second round of the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate continues with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start Monday.
