LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of South Alabama doubles team of Marek Sramek and Robert Hodel advanced to the Round of 32 at the ITA Southeast Regional with an 8-3 opening round victory Friday night over UT-Chattanooga’s Badr Bouabdellah and Razvan Axente at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The Jag duo will begin play Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
South Alabama’s other doubles team of R.J. Nagel and Aaron Krisan was not as fortunate in their first round match, as Vanderbilt’s team of Scott Lieberman and Alex Zotov won 8-6.
In singles play, Nagel also fell to Stetson’s Chris Swantenson on Friday in three sets. Nagel took the opening set 6-1 but dropped the final two 7-5, 7-5. Also competing in the Round of 156, LSU’s Ian Zelezny picked up a three-set victory over USA’s Robert Hodel. Like Nagel, Hodel captured the first set 6-3, but then fell 6-4 and 6-4 to Zeleny. Jag freshman Aaron Krisan also saw his singles action come to an end on Friday as he fell 7-5, 6-1 to Alabama’s Dan Buikeman.
After receiving a bye through the first two rounds, USA’s Marek Sramek was defeated in his first match of the tournament (6-0, 6-2) in the Round of 64 by Boris Conkic of Tennessee.
