LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? The University of South Alabama women’s golf team fired a team score of 310 and finished tied for 11th place in the final round of the Price’s Give ?Em Five Intercollegiate, Wednesday. Oklahoma won the team title shooting 902, while UC-Davis golfer Chelsea Stelzmiller was the medalist firing a three-over par 219.
“Today was the toughest day because of the conditions being so windy,” head coach T.J. Jackson said. “The second round really hurt us, but overall it was a good tournament and it gave us a feel of where we are nationally.”
South Alabama was led on the final day by senior Elin Andersson’s and junior Shirley Harvey’s four-over par 76. Seniors Sara Marti and Sally Miller each recorded 79, while junior Darah Newell turned in 83.
Behind Oklahoma, Idaho turned in 906 and UC-Davis finished one stroke back at 907. Kansas and North Carolina State finished tied for fourth, each carding 908.
UC-Davis golfer’s Stelzmiller (219) and Bryana Gregory (220) finished first and second, while Kelly Nakashima (221) of Idaho finished in third. Four golfers were tied for fourth place with 222.
