SOCCER EARNS NSCAA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama women’s soccer team has been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America receiving the Team Academic Award for the seventh consecutive year.  The Jaguars had a 3.34 team grade point average during the 2005-06 academic year which also was the best GPA in the Sun Belt Conference.

“One of our team goals every season is to win academic awards such as this one as a group,” said Jaguar head coach Mike Varga.  “The young women on the soccer team realize that they are in school for their education and I am pleased that we have won this award for the past seven years.  We want to be successful on the field, but also realize that academics are a high priority.”

USA is one of 235 women’s soccer programs to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2005-06 school year and one of only five Sun Belt schools to receive the Team Academic Award.
