JAGUAR ATHLETES POST OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC FALL SEMESTER

MOBILE, Ala. ? The University of South Alabama’s student athletes completed one of the best academic semesters in recent memory this past fall, as 11 teams posted grade point averages above 2.5, with five teams totaling averages better than 3.0, as announced Thursday morning by Director of Athletic Academic Services Linda Pereira.

“The majority of our student-athletes are responding extremely well to the new academic standards established by the NCAA,” Pereira said.

In addition to the individual team GPA’s, the cumulative GPA of all of the student athletes at 2.96, was one of the best in recent years.

“I can only remember one time in my ten years at South Alabama that our cumulative GPA has been this high,” added Pereira. “We are extremely proud of what our student-athletes accomplished this fall.”

The women’s golf team, which was honored last season with a third-place ranking in the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team GPA Award with a 3.65, topped its score of a season ago with a team GPA of 3.77. Women’s tennis, volleyball and softball, as well as baseball, each recorded team GPA’s in excess of 3.0.
