MOBILE, Ala. ? A hat trick by McNeese State’s Kamryn Koch proved to be too much for the University of South Alabama women’s soccer team as it dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cowgirls Sunday at The Cage. The Jaguars fall to 0-4 on the season and McNeese State improves to 3-0.
McNeese State controlled the ball for the first 15 minutes of the half, but the Jaguars started going on the offensive as freshman Amanda Douglas had a good look at the goal, but MSU’s Aubrey Ross made the diving save.
The Cowgirls broke open the game in the 36th minute as Koch scored on a penalty kick. Koch scored the second goal not more than a minute later as Koch received a ball from Cynthia Torres down the left side and put it past Jaguar goalkeeper sophomore Kelsie Langford.
The half ended with the Cowgirls up 2-0. USA had three shots, while MSU had five.
Koch scored her third goal of the game in the 71st minute as she received a pass from Ja’Nae Powell to put the Cowgirls up 3-0. The Jaguars did not stop fighting, however. USA had three good looks, but were unable to get anything across until the 80th minute as senior Jenn Edgar was fouled inside the box. Edgar scored the first goal of the season for the Jaguars on a penalty kick.
USA could get no closer, falling 3-1. The Jaguars had 10 shots for the game with seven in the second half and five shots on goal. Freshman Tiara Smith led the team with four shots and three on goal.
The Jaguars continue at home next weekend hosting the 2006 KELME Port City Classic, Sept. 8 and 10. USA will face North Florida on Friday at 7 p.m. preceded by Cleveland State vs. Nicholls State.
