JAGS BLANKED BY MIDDLE TENNESSEE, 8-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The University of South Alabama women’s soccer team dropped an 8-0 decision Friday night against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Jaguars fall to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Blue Raiders improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

 

Middle Tennessee jumped on the board in the 20th minute with a goal by Mary Zapapas and an assist from Rebecca Rodriguez.  Not more than three minutes later, MT scored again as Rodriguez got an assist from Kala Morgan for the score.  The Blue Raiders added two more goals to go up 4-0 at halftime.

 

The Jaguars had two shots in the first half and sophomore Kelsie Langford had seven saves in the opening stanza. 

 

The Jaguars defense came out strong in the second half, but Middle was too much, adding four more goals in the half for the 8-0 win.  Freshman Amanda Douglas paced the Jaguars with two shots, while freshman Sam Stocker and juniors Shoshana Sevel and Kelly Tarrant each had a shot.  All three goalkeepers saw action for the Jaguars.  Langford played the first half, while freshmen Katie Berry and Jessica Ori split time in the second half.  Berry had two saves and Ori had one save.  

 

South Alabama will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to face Western Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
