JAGUARS FALL 1-0 IN HOME OPENER

MOBILE, Ala. ? In the 2006 South Alabama women’s soccer home opener, the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night at The Cage.  The Jaguars fall to 0-3 on the year, while Southeastern Louisiana improves to 2-1.

The first 30 minutes of the game were back-and-forth as neither team gained much of an advantage.  SELA had two good looks at the goal but were unable to capitalize as Dana Mayer hit the post, while sophomore Carly Williams had a good look at the goal, but Lions’ goalkeeper Holly Moran made the save.

In the 33rd minute SELA’s Danielle Shank broke the scoreless tie as she put a shot past a diving sophomore Kelsie Langford for the only goal of the half.  USA had two shots in the half with one on goal, while Southeastern Louisiana had five shots and two on goal.

The second half began the way the first began as neither team gained much of an advantage.  USA had two good looks in the final two minutes as Shundel Francis shot a ball just wide of the goal after Moran was out of the goal.

For the game, USA had eight shots and three on goal, while SELA had five shots and two on goal.  Freshman Samantha Stocker led the Jaguars with three shots and two on goal.

USA will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. against McNeese State.
