BEIJING, China - Running the second leg of the 4x400m relay, South Alabama's Ajoke Odumosu helped Nigeria to their first medal of the 2006 World Junior Track and Field Championships. Odumosu's team broke the African Junior record on their way to a silver medal performance. The Nigerians ran 3:30.84 behind the team from the United States who finished with a world junior-leading time of 3:29.01. The highly competive race saw the lead change at all three exchange points with Nigeria ahead through the first lap, the U.S. in front on the second baton pass, and the eventual bronze medalist Jamaica leading with one lap to go.
Odumosu, an NCAA finalist at 400m hurdles, finished fifth in the one-lap hurdles earlier this week. The reigning Sun Belt Conference outdoor 400m and 400m hurdles champion looks to help the cross country team this fall when the season begins on Sept. 16 with the 33rd Annual Azalea City Classic at the University of South Alabama.
