MOBILE, Ala. - University of South Alabama women's softball head coach Becky Clark announced Wednesday that Julie Ann Morton (Morris HS), a third baseman/infielder, has signed her national-letter-of-intent to play for the Jaguars during their inaugural season.
"Julie is another great addition to our inaugural team. She is a hard-nosed, physical type player. I look for her to play a corner for us and contribute some power offensively as well. I believe she has a tremendous amount of potential and I look for her to be an integral part of our building process."
Morton comes to USA after lettering at Morris High School in Morris, Okla. Each of the last two seasons, Morton has been selected to the all-county and all-conference teams and as a senior she was an all-state selection and a Wendy's Heisman nominee. During her senior campaign, she was named the Offensive Player of the Year after batting .402, with 17 doubles, eight triples and three home runs. She also drove in 26 runners. Her junior season was just as impressive as she batted .420 with 14 doubles, nine triples, seven home runs and 23 RBI's.
She joins early signees Katie McGuire (Thompson HS), Autumn Hudson (Gulf Coast CC), and Katie Veres and Ashley Elmore (Wallace State CC) and Jenny Stevens (Jackson HS) in the inaugural Jaguar recruiting class.
