MEN'S GOLF IN SECOND WITH 18 HOLES TO PLAY IN 2006 AEROPOSTALE SUN BELT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The defending Sun Belt Conference champion South Alabama men's golf team stands in second place with 18 holes to play in the 2006 SBC Championship at the PGA Village. The Jaguars (577) are five strokes back of Western Kentucky heading into the final round.

WKU leads the event with a 572 score after a 286 team score on Tuesday. The Jaguars had a 289 team score on Tuesday. Troy is third at 582, followed by North Texas (584) and New Orleans (585) to round out the top five.

"We had a chance to seperate ourselves from the field and we let one get away, but we still have an opportunity to win if we get everyone to contribute tomorrow," Jaguar head coach Ben Hannan said.

Individually, WKU's Brett Long continues to lead the event with a 9-under 135 (67-68). South Alabama's Jonny Caldwell moved up to second place after an impressive 68 on Tuesday. Caldwell is 5-under 139 for the tournament. Daniel Burns carded a 73 on Tuesday, to move to fourth heading into the final round with a 36-hole score of 141.

Kyle Simmons moved from tied for 25th, to a tie for ninth after a 68 in the second round. Simmons' 36-hole score stands at 144. Dane Thorogood fired an 80 on Tuesday after a 73 on Monday for a 153 score and is tied for 32nd. Scott Shouldice shot an 81 in the second round as is 47th after 36 holes with a 160 score.

The final round is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
