NEW ORLEANS - South Alabama runner Stephen Larubi was named the Runner of the Week as the first such awards were announced this outdoor season by league officials Tuesday afternoon. The award is a first for the native of Kampala, Uganda.

Larubi qualified for the Mid East Regional in the first outdoor meet of the season, by breaking David Kimani's school record and his own track record at the USA Premier Invitational on March 4. The junior ran 1:49.18 for his second career Invitational title. Larubi also picked a win at the Ole Miss Dual Meet on March 25.

The 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays are up next for Larubi and several other Jags who have qualified for the elite meet in Austin, Texas.
