LADY JAGUARS DROP HEARTBREAKER TO MARSHALL, 4-3

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of South Alabama women's tennis team (6-4) dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Marshall University (10-4) Saturday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. The loss is the first for the Jags at home this season.

The Lady Jags took a 1-0 match lead after sweeping the three doubles matches. Klara Jarova and Adrianna Solarova made quick work of the Marshall duo of Lynzee Kever and Kellie Schmitt with an 8-2 victory. USA sealed the point when Dijana Stanic and Jelena Krivacevic captured a 8-5 victory over Jeanne Schwartz and Jessica Kenner.

Stanic and Michaela Babicova kept the Jag momentum going when they each picked up straight set victories at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions to give USA a 3-0 advantage. Marshall, however, cut the deficit to 3-2 when Kever and Schmitt also picked up straight set victories of their own.

The last two contest were each three set marathons. South Alabama's Klara Jarova, competing in the No. 6 spot, took the first set 6-3 but dropped the last two sets 6-3, 6-3 to square the match up at 3-3. In the deciding singles match, Jelena Krivacevic battled back from a 6-4 loss to Shannon Brown in the first set to take the second set 6-3. Krivacevic led 5-3 in the final set, but Brown, ranked No. 112 in the nation, reeled off four straight points and took the set 7-5 and clinched the match for the Herd 4-3.

The South Alabama women next take to the road to face SBC foe Troy, ranked No. 73 in the latest ITA poll, before returning home for a nine-match home stand. The Jags and the Trojans will face each other at 1 p.m. on Monday.
