JAGS VAULT TO SBC PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK IN TRACK AND FIELD

NEW ORLEANS - South Alabama pole vaulters Erin Kinnear and Thomas Fowlkes were named Field Event Performers of the Week by Sun Belt Conference officials Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time the pair have received the honor this season. South Alabama athletes have been named Performers of the Week two other times this season. Juniors Vincent Rono and Ajoke Odumosu were named Track Performers of the Week in consecutive weeks, on the week of February 1 and the following week of February 7.

Erin Kinnear broke her own school and Irish national record in the women's pole vault. The junior cleared the bar at 3.73m (12' 2.75") to win the competition.

Senior Thomas Fowlkes broke the 5m barrier for the first time in his Jaguar career. The Mobilian cleared 5.05m (16' 6.75"), improving his best mark by over .3m, while finishing first among collegians, third overall.

The Jaguar track and field teams head to Mufreesboro, Tenn. on Feb. 25-26 as Middle Tennessee State University hosts the Sun Belt Conference Championship Meet. The men's team is the defending conference champions.
