LADY JAGS IN SECOND PLACE AFTER DAY ONE AT BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of South Alabama women’s golf team fired an opening round of 312 at the 2006 Ann Rhodes Southern Shootout and sits in second place after day one Monday at Bent Brook Golf Course in McCalla, Ala.

Leading the way for the Lady Jags after the cold, rain soaked first round is junior Michelle Toth. Toth fired a three over-par 75 to take top Jaguar honors. Freshman Shirley Harvey and junior Sara Marti both carded 78. Elin Andersson shot 81, Susanne Jepson shot 83 and Sally Miller, competing as an individual posted 87.

“The conditions were extremely tough today,” said USA head coach T.J. Jackson. “We have to play better tomorrow to win, but we have a shot.”

The Lady Jags take to the course Tuesday for the final round. Birmingham Southern leads after day one.
