MOBILE, Ala. ? The Blue Team banged out 18 hits and got a strong start on the mound from right-hander Kevin Nabors and took game six 12-6 over the Red Team, Sunday afternoon at Stanky Field.
With the win the Blue Team has cut the series lead to 3-2 and forces a sixth game. Game six is scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday night. The Blue Team needs a pair of wins to capture the series, while the Red side needs just one.
Nabors went 4.2 innings and collected the win. He allowed just one run although it was unearned and scattered four hits. Red team starter Jake Leblanc took the loss, allowing five earned runs in three innings.
The Blue Team jumped on its opposition early, scoring a single run in the first and four more in the third. The Blue Team scored in five consecutive innings, from the third to the seventh.
Once Nabors left the game for the Blue Team, the Red Team mounted a comeback, scoring twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth. In the end the Blue Team proved too much and forced game six.
Offensively the Blue Team was led by Ray Kruml. Along with three hits and two runs, Kruml stole four bases. Eric Shortell also had three doubles and two RBIs. Shortell, Clint Toomey, Bill Kleinschrodt and Ben Daw each had multiple RBI games.
Leading the way for the Red Team was Sean Laird. Laird went 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Jeff Cunningham and Russell Harben each had two hits on the day.
Game six is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday night. Admission to all Red and Blue World Series games is free.
