MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of South Alabama completed the trifecta as they won their third tournament in a row Tuesday at the 2nd Annual Troy University Women’s Invitational. The Lady Jags held off second place Louisiana-Monroe by firing a seven-over par 295 at Arrowhead Country Club. Senior Elin Andersson recorded her second win of the season shooting a two-under par 142, for the tournament.
“It was a close tournament and I am very proud of the way they played especially under pressure,” said women’s coach TJ Jackson. “This was a different tournament because the other two teams were so close, but all the girls contributed and played solid.”
Junior Sara Marti trailed Andersson by four strokes carding 73 and a 36 hole score of 146, to finish tied for sixth. Sophomore Darah Newell and junior Michelle Toth fired 74 and 75, respectively. Junior Sally Miller recorded 79 to round out the Lady Jag’s scoring.
Andersson was the only golfer to finish under par as four golfers tied for second carding one-over par 145’s. For the year, Andersson has won two tournaments and recorded a top-five and a top-15 finish.
“Elin is continuing to improve with each tournament and it is showing because she is getting more comfortable shooting lower scores,” said Jackson.
Louisiana-Monroe finished behind USA in second place recording a 16-over par 592. Jacksonville State (596) and Murray State (606) finish in third and fourth, respectively. Belmont and Northern Colorado finished tied in fifth shooting 33-over par, 609.
