WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT WESTERN KENTUCKY 2-0 SUNDAY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ? The University of South Alabama women’s soccer team dropped a hard, fought 2-0 decision at Western Kentucky Sunday.  With the loss, the Jaguars fall to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Western Kentucky improves to 7-4 and 3-1 in SBC play.

“We played with more energy today,” Jaguar head coach Mike Varga said.  “We made a couple of mistakes in the second half that Western converted.  We will regroup this week and get ready for Denver and North Texas next week.”

After more than 60 minutes of scoreless soccer, WKU’s Jenna Silverberg took a free kick in the 62nd minute from 20-yards out and put it past Jaguar sophomore goalkeeper Kelsie Langford.  WKU followed that score with the insurance goal in the 76th minute as Kellie Walker converted on a rebounded shot for a 2-0 lead.

USA had 11 shots in the game and five on goal.  Sophomore Cortney Stewart and freshmen Amanda Douglas and Samantha Slover paced USA with two shots each.  Langford had six saves for the Jaguars in the losing effort.

The Jaguars return home to host Denver and North Texas next weekend.  USA will face Denver at 7 p.m. Friday at The Cage.
