MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's soccer team got back on the winning track with a 1-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe in the 2005 KELME Jaguar Invitational. The Jaguars improve to 2-2 on the year, while Louisiana-Monroe's five-game winning streak is snapped, falling to 5-4. Jaguar senior Rebecca Kahn came off the bench as a spark for the Jaguars scoring the game winner in the second half.

The game began with USA dominating much of the first half as it jumped out to an 8-2 lead in shots for the first stanza. Much of the game was played in the offensive end of the field for the Jaguars. USA had a number of chances in the first half, including two headers from senior Tanya Allegretti, but ULM keeper Rachel Marcom had the stop. The Jaguars also had the advantage in the first half in corner kicks at a 7-1 clip.

The second half played out much like the first, with USA in the attacking zone much of the time. Allegretti had two more chances for goals, but Marcom had the save each time. Kahn took a ball from junior Jen Beckwith off a throw in into the box and Allegretti got a foot on it and found Kahn for the goal. It was Kahn's second goal of the year and Beckwith's team-leading third assist and first for Allegretti.

"I came off the bench and was filled with energy and I wanted to do is get in there and let the fire out from underneath me and do what I could to get myself in the right place at the right time and Tanya (Allegretti) was there and I put it in," Kahn said.

For the game, the Jaguars outshot ULM 19-3 with 13 shots on goal. Both the 19 shots and 13 on goal are season highs for the Jaguars. USA also had a season high 16 corner kicks. Eight different Jaguars had shots in the contest with Allegretting leading the way with four. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsie Langford recorded her first shutout of her career and tallied one save.

"I thought we played pretty well from the start today," said Jaguar head coach Mike Varga. "I really didn't see peaks and valleys and I thought we had a dominating performance tonight and I am very happy the team."

The first game of the 2005 KELME Jaguar Invitational saw Troy come-from-behind to defeat Northwestern State, 2-1. NSU scored the first goal just three minutes into the game. Troy battled back and scored the equalizer in the 21st minute and added the insurance goal on a 30-plus yard boot by Jenna Mosher in the 85th minute to seal the victory.

USA will face Northwestern State at 2:30 p.m. at "The Cage" on Sunday, while Troy will battle Louisiana-Monroe at noon.
