USA FILLS VACANT BASEBALL ASSISTANT SPOT WITH COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON'S REINSTETLE

MOBILE, Ala.- University of South Alabama head baseball coach Steve Kittrell announced Rob Reinstetle, formerly with the College of Charleston, as the new assistant coach with the program.

"We are extremely excited for Rob to be joining our staff," said Kittrell. "He has done an outstanding job at Charleston and is a great young recruiter. He has a lot of experience coaching the infielders and hitters and will serve as our recruiting coordinator here at USA."

Reinstetle, who spent the last two seasons with the Cougers, will take over for Scot Sealy, who left last month to take the head coaching job at Alabama Southern Community College.

"Obviously, I am excited to come to South Alabama," said Reinstetle. "It's great to be part of the South Alabama tradition. Coach Kittrell is well respected and I look forward to working under him. One of my main goals is to help South Alabama get to Omaha."

Serving as the hitting coach at Charleston, Reinstetle orchestrated the Southern Conference 's top offensive team in 2004 and 2005. Charleston led the SoCon and set school records for runs scored (553) and team batting average (.355) each of the last two seasons. The Cougars also set SoCon records for most hit by pitches in a season with 122 and most sacrifice bunts with 94 with Reinstetle their.

As a team in 2005, Charleston led the Southern Conference in five different offensive categories. One season prior, the Cougers had five players reach the 50-RBI plateau.the first time in school history. The College of Charleston finished the 2005 season ranked by three national polls (22nd by Collegiate Baseball, 24th by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and 25th in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll) and captured the SoCon regular-season title for the second straight season. In 2005, Charleston claimed its second straight Southern Conference title with a 27-3 league mark and participated in the Clemson Regional. The Cougers also won a school and SoCon record 48 games, finishing 48-15 after going 47-16 the season before.

Prior to Charleston, the 29-year-old Ohio-native coached at Okaloosa-Walton Community College. Reinstetle helped the Raiders to a 43-13 record and a second-place finish in the Florida Regional Junior College tournament. Under the guidance of Reinstetle, the OWCC offense led the state of Florida in batting average (.349) and doubles (138) in 2003.

Reinstetle came to OWCC after one season as an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to his stint with the Bearcats, Rob served as an assistant coach at Ohio Dominican College where he helped lead the Panthers to the NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, in 2001.

After receiving his undergraduate degree in Cross Disciplinary Studies from Ohio Dominican College in 1999, he spent two years serving as an associate professional scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers while coaching American Legion ball in Upper Arlington (his home town, near Columbus, OH).

Reinstetle received his Associate of Arts degree from OWCC in 1997 and also played for the Raider baseball team from 1995-97.

He and his wife, Kim, were married in 2000.
