LADY JAGS FINISH SECOND AT TROY INVITATIONAL

Final Results

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of South Alabama women’s golf team carded a final round 313 to finish in second place, five shots back New Orleans at the first annual Troy Women’s Invitational, held at Lagoon Park Golf Club in Montgomery, Ala. Tuesday.

Junior Elin Andersson led the Jags by finishing in a tie for fifth place, matching her best finish of the fall. Andersson posted rounds of 78 and 76 leaving her in a tie for tenth place overall, six shots back of the leader. Sophomore Sara Marti finished in a tie for 10th along with freshman Darah Newell. Junior Michelle Toth finished in a tie for 14th and Alexis Beard tied for 35th. Senior Susanne Jepson competing as an individual, fired the tournament low round of the day by posting 75.

“Conditions were tough today but we battled well,” said Jag coach T.J. Jackson. “If we keep giving ourselves opportunities we will break through.”

Shauna McVeigh of Troy took home the Medalist Honors, after posting a two round total of four over-par. Angela Drane of Louisiana Monroe and Therese Nilsson of New Orleans both finished tied for second three shots back at seven over-par.

The Jags finished the 2005 fall season with a fifth place finish, followed by a pair of second place finishes. The Jags open the spring season in Orlando, Fla. Feb. 6-7, at the 2006 Central Florida Tournament.
