Box Score

LAFAYETTE, La. - In the final conference match of the regular season, the University of South Alabama women's soccer team continued its longest winning streak of the season by defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-1, to finish SBC play with a 6-2 record and a 9-4-1 record overall. This is the fifth win in a row for the Jaguars and the 6-2 conference record ties the most wins in conference play for the Jaguars in school history. The 2000 squad went 6-1 in conference play.

USA opened the game with the quick score as senior Tanya Allegretti took a pass from sophomore Kelly Tarrant and put it in the back of the net past Stephanie Weston for a score at 4:20 into the match. The goal was the second quickest goal for the Jaguars this season. Junior Jenn Edgar scored the first goal at Southeastern Louisiana a week ago at 3:39 into that contest.

The game remained 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half as both teams recorded three shots in the opening half. Weston made two saves and freshman Kelsie Langford made one in the first half.

The Cajuns evened the score early in the second half as Lindsay Webb took a penalty kick for UL and put it past Langford to tie the game a 1-1 in the 49th minute. The two schools continued to battle hard but Edgar took a pass from senior Allison Brubeck and put it past Weston for the game winner.

Offensively for the Jaguars, USA took 12 shots, seven on goal and scored two. Langford allowed the one goal off the penalty kick and made five saves. Edgar led the team with three shots, all on goal.

The Jaguars concluded the road trip with a 3-0 record and will return home to face Alabama State on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale. It also will be Senior Day at "The Cage" as the Jaguars will honor four seniors who will be playing their last regular season game there. USA will host the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship beginning Nov. 2 at "The Cage."
