Mitchell Center

The Mitchell Center, home of the University of South Alabama men’s and women’s basketball programs, opened in 1999.  In 2019, the facility was enhanced with a brand new playing surface, Musco multi-color LED lights, as well as new Daktronics high definition center hung videoboard. The Mitchell Center features a 10,041-seat arena and exceptional support space with state-of-the-art equipment.

The Mitchell Center also houses the locker rooms, athletic training room, coaches’ offices, and team rooms for both of the men’s and women’s basketball programs.  The teams practice both in the Mitchell Center and Striplin Gym.

Facility Features:
• Multipurpose facility hosting commencement ceremonies, conventions, concerts, and fairs
• Home to the Waterman Globe, which originally resided in the Waterman Building in downtown Mobile from 1948-73
• Courtside and baseline seating

Mitchell Center Notes:
• Hosted first combined Sun Belt Tournament in 2001
• Hosted the Coors Classic from 1999-2010, featuring teams such as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Louisville, and Mississippi State
• Hosted the 2004 WNIT and 2019 preseason WNIT

Directions:
The Mitchell Center is located at 5950 Old Shell Road.  From I-65, take exit 5A and go left on Spring Hill Avenue.  Spring Hill Avenue changes to Zeigler Blvd.  At University Blvd, turn left.  Once you reach Old Shell Road, turn right.  You will see the Mitchell Center on the right at the second stop light.
