Mendel went 2-0 at the Southern Collegiate Match Play on Saturday, helping the Jaguars claim the title with victories over Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech. The junior clinched South's semifinal victory over the Ragin' Cajuns with a 1 up defeat of Ragnar Gardarsson in which he came back from 1 down after 13 holes by winning both the 16th and 17th holes before closing out the match with a tap-in par on No. 18. With the Jags down 1-0 in the championship, Mendel earned a 6 & 5 victory over the Bulldogs’ Karsten Green to even the score; he claimed the first hole and never trailed in the pairing, building a 4 up advantage at the turn before sealing the win on the 13th hole.
