Newton went 3-0 in singles and doubles in the Jaguars’ undefeated weekend, winning all three singles matches at No. 2 in straight sets while losing more than two games in a set just twice. She defeated Alena Shichkova of Texas-San Antonio 6-1, 6-4 before blanking Matea Zemunik of Incarnate Word 6-0, 6-0 and then closing out the weekend with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Texas State’s Ana Laura Gutierrez. In doubles, Newton teamed with Michaela Meszarosova and Paula Sanchez for three wins at Nos. 2 and 3, as she and Meszarosova defeated pairs from UTSA (7-5) and Texas State (8-6) at No. 2, and Newton and Sanchez won 8-4 at No. 3 over Incarnate Word.
