MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS CAL TRANSFER DON COLEMAN

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama men's basketball head coach Richie Riley announced Friday that Don Coleman will be transferring into the program from California.

Coleman, a 6-foot-3 guard, will have to sit out the 2018-19 season and will have one season of eligibility remaining.

"Don is an impactful addition to our program both on and off the court," Riley stated. "He is a proven contributor from the Pac-12 where he was California's leading scorer. Don is wired to score and plays at a great pace. With his relentless work ethic, he will take advantage of the sit-out year to take his game to another level."

Last year with the Bears, Coleman averaged 14.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30 games. He led the team in scoring and free throws, and was second in assists (57) and steals (42).

The Augusta, Ga. native hit double-digit points on 20 occasions, with three 30-point performances. He scored a career-high 35 points on four 3-pointers against Wichita State, and opened the year with back-to-back 30-point games vs. UC Riverside and Cal Poly.

In his sophomore campaign, Coleman averaged 4.6 points per contest. He earned his first career start against CSU Bakersfield in the first round of the NIT, and responded with a then-career best 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the free-throw line.

Coleman led Lawson State Community College to a 17-11 record in 2015-16 while pouring in 19.9 points per contest. He was a First Team all-Alabama Community College Conference selection.

As a prep at Butler High School, he was twice named to the Augusta Chronicle's First Team all-Area team, and finished his career with a school-record 2,071 points. He led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of his final three seasons, including 24.5 ppg as a junior.
