MOBILE, Ala. – Senior center Chyna Ellis is scheduled to participate in the Insider Exposure Basketball Pro Combine Friday in Columbus, Ohio. Ellis was also named Women's Basketball Invitational all-tournament team Friday after averaging 11.7 points and 9.7 boards in three postseason contests.
"The fact that she has put herself in position for these opportunities is a testament to the hard work she has put in," South Alabama head coach Terry Fowler said. "From the time she got here, we have seen this young lady transform her body and transform her game from being strictly a defensive player to working inside to now shooting the three. I'm proud of her and what she's done."
The combine consists of a drill and skills portion for the first hour and 45 minutes, with the last four hours consisting of games to last around 30 minutes. Ellis is on Team One and is paired with Arkansas' Devin Cosper, Tia Weledji of Princeton, Seton Hall's Donnaizha Fountain, DeAngelique Waithe from LIU Brooklyn and Corban's Jade Lowery.
Ellis averaged 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while rejecting a program single-season record 107 shots. She was named First-Team all-Sun Belt Conference and the conference's defensive player of the year. Ellis also recorded the program's first triple-double since 1986 on Jan. 18 in a home win over Coastal Carolina when she also set the Mitchell Center individual record for blocks with 10 and became the SBC's all-time block leader. She finished her career with 338 rejections.
The senior helped the program to its most wins in a season (21) since 2008-09 and led the program to its first postseason semifinal appearance in the WBI. Her 107 blocks were apart of 254 by the team this season, which led the NCAA and set a new program single-season record.
