OFF THE COURT WITH… CAMRYN LONDON

The University of South Alabama women's basketball team will welcome four newcomers to the Jaguar roster during the 2016-17 season.  Of the course of the summer, USAJaguars.com will sit down with each of them for Q & A session to help fans see another side of the newest Jags.

The final newcomer for USA fans to get to know is Camryn London, a 5-7 guard from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Ala.  London talks about her why she chose South Alabama, what famous talk-show host she aspires to be like and what one word she feels best describes the 2016-17 Jaguar women, among many other topics.

What are your goals and expectations for the season?
"I would like to work hard and do everything I need to do to take my team far, whether it is major or minor just do anything I can to help take our team far."

What do you feel is a strength that you bring to the team and why?
"My strength is shooting because it is one of the top things I was recruited for.  I would also say my effort.  I go hard on every play and possession."

What is one area of your game that you are looking at improving in this season and why?
"My ball handling is the main thing.  I also want to learn how to play South Alabama defense."

What do you feel is going to be the biggest thing for you and your teammates to do this season to be successful?
"Keying in on our brand of basketball, trusting each other and communicating."

Is there a teammate of yours who you look up to?
"I look up to Colby [Davis] a lot because she works hard and always makes sure I am ok.  If I am feeling weak or tired in practice, I can look to her to make me feel stronger."

Who on the team do you feel will take on the biggest leadership role this season and why?
"Marquita Daniels because she talks and helps out anybody who needs it.  As the point guard you are the coach on the floor, so she has to put everybody in the right position, make sure the play is going right, and make sure we are cohesive as a team."

Why did you choose to come to South Alabama?
"I felt like this was home.  When I came on my visits, I felt like I was welcomed with opened arms.  I didn't feel like I was going to just come here and be a player.  They made me feel like I could make a difference.  The diversity of the school was also something I was looking for."

What type of player can fans expect to see out on the floor when they watch you play?
"I would say energetic, because I bring a lot of energy on the floor.  I try to pump my teammates up whether I'm on the floor or not.  When they are down I just try to build them up."

What do you feel will be the biggest adjustment for you here at South Alabama?
"I think I will have to adjust my time management.  In high school you have so much free time and you can get away with being lax in some things.  In college, you are on your own and your parents aren't here to push you.  I just have to stay focused and keep working hard."

What are you majoring in at South Alabama and what do you plan to do after graduation?
"Media and communications.  Since I was little, I've wanted to be the next Oprah Winfrey.  I want have my own TV show that helps people and gives advice to those who are going through something.  Even if they don't come onto the show for me to help them, I want them to be helped by just watching it."

What is one interesting thing that Jaguar fans may not know about you?
"I am scared of birds, because when I was younger my dad left the back door open and 7-10 birds got into our house and in my room."

Do you have a favorite place on campus?
"My room.  After a long day, I can just go there and relax."

What does it mean to you to be a Jaguar?
"It means responsibility and being strong.  Believing in myself as well as my team believing in me also."

Describe South Alabama women's basketball in a word: "Determined."
