NEW ORLEANS – Capping a year in which he earned an individual berth to an NCAA Regional, University of South Alabama men's golfer Yannick Schütz was named first-team all-Sun Belt Conference as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The sophomore from Friolzheim, Germany paced the Jaguars with a 71.96 scoring average, six top-20 results and 13 rounds at or below par.  All of his scores at or under par came in the spring — including five events when he accomplished the feat twice — helping Schütz record a 54-hole total below par at each of those tournaments highlighted by the first four of the semester.

He posted career-low 18-hole and three-round scores with a 5-under-par 67 on the last day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate leading to a 6-under-par 210 total to open February; his fifth-place finish in the individual standings was the best of his career as well. Schütz followed that performance by shooting par or better in all three rounds for a 4-under-par 212 54-hole score at the All-American Intercollegiate to close out the week, matching his career-best round with a 67 on the final day of Auburn's Tiger Invitational next time out.  He also fired a 1-under-par 70 on the final day of stroke play at the Sun Belt Championship to help the Jags qualify for match play at the event.

Prior to the start of play at the NCAA Kissimmee Regional — where he tied for 26th place in a field of 75 competitors with a 2-under-par 214 54-hole total — Schütz ranked third in the Sun Belt both in stroke average and with a 0.42 score against par.

His final scoring average ranks seventh on the school's season record list, which dates back to 1992-93.

Schütz' selection marks the 65th time since the 1981-82 campaign that a South student-athlete has earned all-league recognition, as well as the 28th year in a row that a member of the program has accomplished the feat.
