SCHÜTZ TO REPRESENT USA MEN’S GOLF AT NCAA REGIONAL

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama men's golfer Yannick Schütz has been invited to compete as an individual at the NCAA Kissimmee Regional it was announced on Wednesday.

The sophomore from Friolzheim, Germany is one of five individuals and 14 teams in the field, with competition taking place May 14-16 at the Reunion Resort Watson Course in Kissimmee, Fla.  Also participating in the regional will be, in seeding order, Vanderbilt, Florida, North Carolina, South Florida, Kent State, Arizona, Purdue, Colorado State, Saint Mary's (Calif.), Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State, Georgetown, Central Connecticut State.  The other four individuals set to compete are Steven Fisk (Georgia Southern), R.J. Keur (Alabama-Birmingham), Billy Tom Sargent (Western Kentucky) and Saptak Talwar (Sacred Heart).

The top five teams and the low individual not from those schools from each of six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships.  This year's finals will be hosted by Oklahoma State at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., from May 25-30.

Schütz paces the Jaguars and ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference with a 72.04 scoring average and six top-20 results while sharing the team lead with 11 rounds at or below par.  In his second event of the season after returning from injury he tied for 15th place at the Steelwood Collegiate Classic, then he opened the spring campaign by posting four straight three-round totals under par.  Schütz had career-low 18- and 54-hole scores at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate for the best finish of his career in February, placing fifth in a field of 75 competitors with a 6-under-par 210 total highlighted by a 5-under-par 67 in the final round.  He also carded a 67 on the last day of the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn before recording back-to-back 70s on the first day of Kansas State's BIGHORN Invitational, while in his last two outings Schütz has ended up among the top 20 in the individual standings including at the league championship.

He is the 13th student-athlete to compete for the Jags as an individual at an NCAA Regional or the NCAA Championship, and the first to do so since current teammate Peter Staalbo was invited to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional in 2016.
