Box Score (PDF)

TROY, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Troy 8-5 Saturday at Riddle-Pace Field.

USA used a bases-loaded walk from Brendan Donovan and a two-out, two-run single by Wells Davis in the top of the 10th to secure the win and avoid a three-game series sweep to Troy.

South Alabama will return to action when it opens play at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Lafayette, La., on Wed., May 23.

GAME FACTS
- Brandon Lockridge led off the bottom of the second inning with a triple to left-center field, and scored the game's first run one batter later on an RBI single up the middle by Rigsby Mosley. Brody Binder and Chase Smartt reached on consecutive one-out singles to load the bases for Manning Early, who delivered an RBI groundout to first that scored Mosley to double the Troy lead at 2-0.
- Travis Swaggerty singled through the left side of the infield with one out in the top of the fifth inning, and moved to second on a balk by Troy right-hander Daren Osby. Donovan followed with a walk before Davis delivered a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield later in the inning to score Swaggerty and cut the Troy lead in half at 2-1.
- Early led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to right field for a 3-1 Trojan lead.

QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi

- On the win:
"It was 3-0 in the first game (of the series) and the second game kind of got away from us, and we won this one late so you could have taken two of three games when you look at it. Patrick McBride competed his tail off today. His breaking ball and changeup were good, he made pitches and showed poise and composure. I'm really proud of his effort, and Zach Greene and Chase Lambert behind him were outstanding for us. Wells Davis came up big with two RBIs, but (Carter) Perkins came up big with that opposite field home run against their sidearm guy who cut through us like a knife the inning before – everyone kind of took a breath after that home run and I thought he (Troy right-hander Lance Johnson) might have lost his composure a little bit in that inning, and we scored some runs to go ahead. I was proud of our guys. It's easy to lose a game and hard to win one, and the easy thing would have been to just come here and play this one out and get ready for the conference tournament. But when you wear this uniform that's not what you do. Good or bad, ups and downs, no matter what you have gone through or who you have left on the roster, if you're wearing this uniform then you have to figure you are good enough and good enough to win against anyone you're playing. Our guys had that mindset today."

- On the upcoming conference tournament following the win:
"Guys feel good about themselves, but it's all about in-game momentum; you have to grab it, keep it, hang on to it and maximize it as long as you can. We have to go out there and make our own momentum in Lafayette (La.), and that's what our guys did today. In-game momentum has a lot to do with who is on the mound, and how they do and how they are competing. I thought we did a fantastic job."
