GREENWOOD, Ind. – University of South Alabama baseball left-handed pitcher Zach Melton was named 2018 Google Cloud first-team Academic All-District by CoSIDA.

Melton will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, which will be selected in June. The Foley, Ala., native is one of just two Division I pitchers to earn first-team academic all-district honors in District 4, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina.

Melton, a senior, boasts a 3.94 GPA as a finance major. He is 2-3 with a 5.29 ERA 12 appearances with four starts this season, and has struck out 33 batters against 25 walks in 34 innings pitched while limiting the opposition to a .222 batting average. The southpaw has made six appearances in Sun Belt Conference games with two starts, and has limited the opposition to a .173 batting average in 14 2/3 innings pitched. Melton is scheduled to make his final regular season start at Stanky Field on Saturday against UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
