MEN’S TENNIS TRAVELS TO STARKVILLE FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT REGIONAL, FACES MEMPHIS IN FIRST ROUND

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team will travel to Starkville to take on Memphis May 11 at 10 a.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mississippi State and Tennessee Tech are the two teams in the regional.

The Bulldogs earned the No. 6 overall seed after taking the SEC title.

"The guys are excited. We get to play Memphis," South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu said. "We haven't played Memphis in at least three years. They had a good season. We had a good end to the season. The beginning was tough. We had some guys who weren't eligible and some were hurt or not healthy. It's been a rough year, but the way we finished is how you want to go into the postseason."

South Alabama is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008 after making its fifth straight Sun Belt Championship match and defeated Georgia State 4-1 for the 2018 SBC Title. The Jags finished the season 14-9.

"This is big. We have been knocking on the door for four years in a row. The guys in the last six or seven years have worked hard to get the guys to this level to attract those recruits. We have a very young team and the guys are full of energy."

"This is great news that we are the number three seed in our region. That means we are playing someone who is ranked somewhere between 20-30 in the nation. It's a team that is beatable. We get to drive there, don't have to fly and shouldn't be that tired. It's going to be exciting. We have nothing to lose."
