NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama right-hander Tyler Carr was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and catcher Carter Perkins was named the SBC Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Carr (7-2) tossed a career-high nine innings in last Friday's win at Texas State, marking the first complete game of his Jaguar career, and allowed one run on one hit with six strikeouts against three walks to earn the win, which marked his sixth consecutive victory in as many starts.

He retired 22 of the first 24 Bobcat batters he faced in the game, with a two-out walk to Ryan Newman in the second inning and a one-out walk by Newman in the bottom of the eighth as the only drawbacks. He did not allow a hit until a two-strike, two-out RBI double to right field by Texas State shortstop Luke Sherley in the top of the ninth inning. It was the closest a Jaguar hurler has come to a no-hitter since Kevin Hill lost his no-hit bid against Georgia State on April 24, 2015, with one out in the top of the ninth inning at Stanky Field.

Perkins batted .625 (10-for-16) with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBIs, seven runs scored, a .684 on-base percentage and 1.375 slugging percentage in four games last week. He recorded multiple hits in three of four games, and drove in at least one run in three of four contests. Perkins finished with a career-high four hits, including a double and a pair of home runs, and tied his career high in RBIs (4) in last Wednesday's win at New Orleans. He went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in the series opener at Texas State, and followed that performance by going 4-for-4 with a double, one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in game two of the series.

Tuesday marked the first time Carr or Perkins has earned SBC weekly honors, as well as the first time this season a Jaguar has been recognized by the league.
