STITELER AND FUJIOKA NAMED TO WOMEN’S TENNIS ALL-SUN BELT TEAM

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama junior Alexandria Stiteler and freshman Yu Fujioka were voted First Team all-Sun Belt Conference, and Fujioka was additionally named the league's freshman of the year in the SBC's annual postseason awards announced Wednesday.

Stiteler earns first-team honors for the third time in her career, and Fujioka becomes the second Jaguar to be named freshman of the year, after Stiteler in 2016.

A native of Bradenton, Fla., Stiteler is currently No. 111 in the latest Oracle/ITA national rankings, and is 15-2 this spring – all on the No. 1 court – and 19-6 overall. She is 2-1 against individuals ranked in the top 125.

Thirteen of her 15 wins this spring have been in straight sets, and she started the year 14-1.

In the fall, Stiteler claimed victories over No. 71 Marianna Petrei from Idaho and No. 97 Claudia Herrero of Nevada.

Fujioka, a Funabashi, Japan native, currently has the most wins without a loss in dual matches in school history (20) and the best win percentage at the No. 3 flight (13-0).

She won her singles draw at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational in September, before losing in the final at the Roberta Alison Classic in October. Her two fall defeats were to opponents from Wisconsin and Southern California.

Fujioka won her first 15 decisions this fall in straight sets, and she has not lost a first set all spring. She is 5-0 against Sun Belt competition, with just one of those going the distance.
