TENNIS PROGRAMS CLAIM BOTH SUN BELT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama men's and women's tennis programs swept the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, as the league announced Wednesday that junior Alexandria Stiteler and sophomore Loic Cloes were this week's winners.

Stiteler claims the award for the seventh time in her career, while Cloes is a first-time winner.

A Bradenton, Fla. native, Stiteler won all of her singles matches in straight sets and added two doubles victories in an unbeaten week. Two of her singles wins came against Sun Belt opponents, and she lost no more than four games in a set, all at the No. 1 flight.

She started the week with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Louisiana Tech's Karla De La Luz. On Saturday, she topped Sanae Ohta of Troy 6-1, 6-2, then a day later, downed Arianne de Winter of Georgia Southern 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, she paired with Yu Fujioka for a 6-2 win vs. Louisiana Tech and a 6-3 victory against Georgia Southern.

Stiteler currently has a 10-1 record at No. 1 singles, and a 9-2 mark overall in doubles.

Cloes took both of his singles matches on court 1 last week to extend his win streak to 15 straight, and he also took one of his two doubles matches with the other going unfinished as his pairing was serving to force a tiebreak in a 1-1 week for South Alabama. He defeated DePaul's Alex Galoustian 6-1, 6-3 Friday and Middle Tennessee's Tom Moonen 6-3, 6-3 Saturday.

Cloes, from Oreye, Belgium, is undefeated in dual matches with a 15-0 record in singles play.

The Jaguar men close out the week in Florida, taking on Florida Atlantic on Thursday and Miami (Fla.) on Friday. The women host their home finale Saturday against Alabama-Birmingham at 11 a.m.
