JAGUAR TRACK & FIELD RETURNS TO BIRMINGHAM FOR SAMFORD INVITATIONAL

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama indoor track & field team will travel to the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Samford Invitational on Friday. 

South Alabama posted two first-place finishes at the Jaguar Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 4. Rafael Scott ran the men's 60m dash in a season-high 6.67 seconds, and senior Ashley Heitling was voted Sun Belt Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week after a first-place, season-best performance time of 10:09.56 in the 3,000m.

NOTES
-The Jags will travel 38 student-athletes for Friday's meet.
-This is the third event in a row for the Jaguars at the Birmingham CrossPlex. They previously competed in the Samford Invitational Jan. 19 and the Jaguar Invitational Feb. 4. 
-Scott is seeking his third straight win in the men's 60m. In addition to his win at the Jaguar Invitational, he completed the race in 6.78 seconds at the Jan. 19 Samford Invitational. 
-Olivia Swan and Taylor Dames tied for second in the Jaguar Invitational women's high jump with a mark of 1.69m. 
-Michaela Preachuk placed third in the women's weight throw, while Autavia Fluker placed seventh. Preachuk's mark of 18.61m is the second-highest placement in the all-time Jaguar record books; Fluker's mark of 17.28m places her at fifth in the same category. 
-Nick Giliomee's height of 5.22m in the men's pole vault earned him second place in the event and second place in the all-time Jaguar rankings. 
-Field events for the Samford Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw; running events will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 60m trials.
